How we make money
Short version: affiliate commissions, in a few specific places, and never in a way that changes what the tool tells you. The report is free, complete, and useful whether or not you ever click a partner link.
What we earn on
When your own numbers point to something worth doing, we may show one relevant option. If you use that link and sign up or request a quote, the company pays us a commission or referral fee. It costs you nothing extra, and your price is the same as going direct.
Being straight about the current state of this: today exactly one partner link is live.
- Live now: a home-warranty referral (Choice Home Warranty, through the CJ Affiliate network), shown when your report flags a major system that is past its expected life.
- Not live yet: property-tax-appeal services and home-insurance comparison. These partnerships are not approved yet, so rather than show you a button that goes nowhere, we show no button at all. The insight stays; the dead end does not.
If and when those go live, they will appear the same way: only when your numbers justify them, and always labeled.
What money cannot buy here
- The verdict. Your report is computed from your home's actual figures (assessment, tax record, system ages, location risk). No partner can pay to change a number, and there is no version of the tool that shows a different answer for a paying company.
- Placement by payout. We never rank or order options by who pays us the most. There is one relevant option per situation, not a leaderboard of bidders.
- Silence when there is nothing to sell. When a section of your report shows no real opportunity (your assessment looks fair, your systems are healthy), we say exactly that and show nothing to click. A report where everything looks fine is a valid, and common, outcome.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, or share your address or your report with anyone.
- We don't capture your email or phone number. There is no form on this site that hands your details to a salesperson, because there is no such form at all.
- We don't run display advertising on the tool.
- We don't take payment for editorial placement in our guides.
- We don't put the results behind a signup. You never have to create an account to see everything the tool produces.
How to spot a paid link
Any link that can earn us money is marked as a partner link where it appears, and the disclosure is repeated in the footer of your report rather than buried once at the bottom of the site. Why we bother telling you this
Because the entire value of a tool like this is that you can trust the number. A homeowner who suspects the site is steering them has gotten nothing useful, even if every figure happens to be correct. Publishing the business model, including the unflattering parts like "most of our partnerships are not live yet," is the cheapest way to earn the benefit of the doubt.
